I've just discovered the thoroughly witty writing of Caroline Graham, a mystery writer of the Inspector Barnaby series (Midsomer Murders on TV). Knowing that I would want all of her Barnaby works, I went to BetterWorldBooks.com and managed to find used hardback copies of all seven books - my total ... $35(and change)!
Yep, SEVEN books. And not to rub it in or anything, but Better World Books doesn't charge for shipping if you don't mind waiting a week and a half-ish. AND... a portion of the sales goes to fund literacy charaties around the world.
Yes, they are used. And yes, you do have to sort through a fair amount of paperbacks to find the hardcovers. But they're there, usually in decent condition (only a couple of broken bindings in the last couple years), and because they are often former library copies, they often come with that nifty archival-quality plastic film protecting the dust jackets. They also come dressed in the former library's stickers - like old-time steamer trunks.
Just don't snap up all the hard cover mysteries. Rex Stout, in particular. He's difficult to find these days.
Thanks for the tip . . . on the books and where to get them . . . no kidding? no shipping? AMAZING!
